Animation Development - Scenarios, Character Design and Research

Following a studio meeting, we concluded on the skits that will be in the 2 min animation. As our theme style is the 1980's, research led to the following:

Jessica Crosby

Jasmine Masters

With the above information, job inspired scenarios that was more common for that time period came about. Each skit has been allocated to a team member to research, design and storyboard (with a collaborative script to be made at the end). Some artist freedom is allowed with changing aspects of these skits. The skits are as follows:

Video Store Clark -Kimberley Davis.
 Roller Skate Diner -Jessica Crosby.
Hotel Bell Hop - Jasmine Masters.
Launderette Assistant - Saskya Olsen.

The notion main behind this feature is that Moom is not able to hold down a job for long due to his personality, leading funny situations and fired. Therefore, he will have a different job every few weeks. These skits will flow in the above order and will all be connected by small Easter eggs present in the background, such as posters, signs etc.

In discussions of the tripod camera, Jasmine placed across the idea of CCTV camera work. Dates will be placed on a boarder around our cameras to give a sense time between each job. As Moom is a student, the timing will take place around summer break (May - September). With the introduction of using CCTV, a decision came to move away from the safety video idea and more towards programs such as "You Been Framed". This change in direction also means there can be a more physical, slapstick kind of humor for our animation. During the continuing development, a name for our production became prominent:

THE WORLD WORST CCTV MISHAPS

Moving forward, a concrete understanding of our character was formed. This came after researching comedic roles, and merging aspects of their personalities together to create one that is unique for our Moom.

Jasmine started fleshing out Moom's character personality, and with some changes with the team, lead to the below profile:

Moom's Persona

A key point is his anxiety and quickness to panic, his earphones act as a comfort blanket for when things get too much. It also came to light that we need a physical base to reflect Moon's personality (such as hair style. freckles etc) and incorporate these into our own creations. Jasmine created the base Moom via the personality profile.
